    Hedgehog or Fox?

“The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.”

Simply put, foxes are more flexible, more adaptable, more aware of the environmental changes, more nimble, whereas hedgehogs stick to one idea, one belief, one concept believing that focus ultimately determines success.

Hedgehog philosophy is great in a slow moving, stable, predictable world where tomorrow is likely to be more of yesterday.

Sadly, that is not the world in which we live, where turbulence, rapid change, uncertainty and unpredictability rule.

So, what has this got to do with you – your life, your career, your work?

It simply relates to where you are and where you want to be in the future.

I have said it before – “You can stay as you are, or you can change” its all a matter of choice – your choice.

My own observations are that life does not reward indecision – or laziness – for that matter.

While it may be comfortable or convenient to embrace popular social opinion, to be part of the crowd, life does not reward “decision inertia.”

Of course, if you are happy with your lot, your position, your financial status, your level of security – well then – enjoy your life!!

But, if you are upwardly mobile, ambitious, want or need to improve your lot in life, provide a better future for your children, then you need to make conscious decisions – and more importantly – take conscious steps (actions) to ring in the changes.

Most people I know, and for that matter most successful businessmen, were not born with a silver spoon, or into a privileged family. The truth is that most people who are successful, pull themselves up by their bootstraps. By persistence, determination, hard work and in some cases, pure guts!

And just in case you think that you will be rescued by providence or the government or some other miracle, I earnestly and respectfully suggest that is really wishful thinking!

You are the captain of your ship – and advice and guidance and assistance are always useful, desirable and helpful, but in the end, it is up to you – and nobody else – to take the decisions that will change your life.

It may be my imagination, or just my age, but it seems to me that over time motivational books and talks and videos – such important developmental tools – are a lot less prevalent than in years gone by – and seem to have been replace by hero worship and adulation of popular sports stars.

I too admire and appreciate numerous great sportsmen and women, but I know that none of them will ever have a meaningful impact on my life.

    So, what will?

At the risk of being boring – education! Education can set you free.

And by education, I mean practical, usable, relevant education – education that can open doors, make you a more desirable employee, a competent professional or equip you to be a successful entrepreneur.

If you are in any way connected with finance, either as an accountant, or a financial manager or a financial director and you want to up your game, then Goalfix can be of assistance.

So, if you want to be like a fox, a professional, better qualified with unique skills, more flexible, more adaptable, more capable, more valuable, let Goalfix help you make your dreams come true.
