How do you know that you are on the right track?
For centuries, mankind relied on the position of the stars – or a simple magnetic compass – for direction finding to navigate safely from one port to another.
As long as there were no clouds in the sky!
Life was a lot slower, less complex and simple methods were quite sufficient.
Business was done at a more gentlemanly pace, with dignity and mostly face to face.
If you don’t recognize any of the above traditions and methods, it’s probably because were only born in the 70s or 80s – or subsequently!
Fast forward to 2020 – it’s a totally different world !
Globalisation, internet, emails, WhatsApp, Google, Twitter, Instagram – to mention a few.
International air travel, mobile communications, Zoom, MS Teams, data analytics – and now the Metaverse!!!
Who would want to be the person responsible for directing the affairs of a company – or companies – under these conditions?
I suggest someone who is extremely brave! – extremely confident – or who perhaps has a magic wand.
I was privileged to be Chairman or CEO of a few companies over more than a few decades, and
I speak from personal experience when I extol the virtues of a financial compass!
And while I would love to share some new and exciting technology or advanced management processes and psychology, I am not alluding to either.
What I can tell you, with absolute conviction, is that financial models are invaluable compasses when it comes to managing a company in today’s complex, volatile and uncertain world.
Always of course, with the proviso that they are properly researched, flexible and have been constructed in accordance with international best practice modelling methodology.
Over time I have penned some fifty different articles extolling the virtues of financial models and justifiably may be accused of only having one song in my repertoire .
The thing is, when you come across something of real value, the value of which you have personally experienced, it is rewarding to share it.
We at Goalfix would love the opportunity to engage with you and to explore how we might be able to develop and effective financial compass for your business – be it big, small or a stat-up.
